Awareness
This isn’t what love should feel like
This isn’t what love should feel like was a domestic abuse awareness-raising project. Working with Birmingham & Solihull Women’s Aid, the publication and social media campaign helped people to understand and recognise domestic abuse, and access support. It challenged the outdated conversation around domestic abuse and was a call to action.
The publication integrated factual information, myth-busting, advice and helplines with poetry and artwork. The project commissioned new work by Birmingham based writer Nafeesa Hamid and artist Sarah Taylor Silverwood. Featuring new material created with BSWA, this combined, collaborative approach produced a sensitive but powerful tool for communication about domestic abuse.
“We had a couple of young women access our support for sexual violence, but after picking up this resource, realised that the abuse was wider than that too. Other women also told us that they found the resource empowering as it reflected their voice and lived experience of domestic abuse. So just to say thank you so much, it’s truly an amazing resource and it’s proving so helpful for the women we support.”
